The town of Beardmore is home to about 180 residents. Years ago, during booms in the mining and timber industries, our town boasted a population of nearly 3,000. Tourism, commercial fishing, mining exploration, and some timber harvesting are still present in and around Beardmore.

Beardmore is known for the world’s largest snowman and as the “Gateway to Lake Nipigon”. Described by some as “the sixth great lake,” Lake Nipigon boasts over 200 islands and spans sixty by ninety miles. The big lake is a tremendous fresh water fishery yielding lake trout, brook trout (specks), pike, and pickerel (walleye). Camping, fishing, and picking wild blueberries are common summer pastimes of locals and visitors. In the fall and winter, people enjoy hunting, fishing, trapping, and snowmobiling. The town of Beardmore amalgamated with six other regional towns to form the municipality of Greenstone in 2001.
